The Productivity of Copy Work
Duck was on a roll in school today. She just really felt a desire to work on some copy work projects, so as mom I allowed her to. I try to promote this when she has an interest because it helps her to see how professional writers write. I feel this is important as it shows her the proper use of punctuation and in this case punctuation with poetry, although it didn't show up here in the stanzas, it is written that way in her copy work book. When children use copy work in their lessons it also helps them to become stronger spellers and increases their vocabulary words. If allowed to blossom, confidence in her own ability to write will appear which seems to occuring at this time.
Ever since she was little she wrote books and eventually learned that she needed them to be published so she created her own publishing company, which you will see attached to the back of all the books she's written. Her publishing company was called,"Paw Print Press".
When she was smaller, she didn't want to write about topics I would choose for school. When I would present writing opportunities to her they would be met with opposition, so the time came when I had to just back off from the writing assignments. I feared if I pushed her beyond her wishes it would spoil her natural love for writing and it has paid off for us as she loves to write now. Duck very seldom argues about what I want her to write about in school, but I have found with some guidance from God that she needs some roaming room to explore her desires in life and with a little bit of patience she writes impressivley about them today. Because I have granted this roaming room, her topic choices have really blossomed into many areas to include biblical perspectives, historical events/activities, and scientific avenues including her much desired love for animals.
You will see many postings of her works in our blog as she writes them. It is our desire as a family that you enjoy reading and learning about what we do in our school world. It is also my desire that God will richly bless you with any knowledge that I have learned along this very rewarding yet sometimes challenging journey. Happy Reading!!
