You Know You’re a Homeschooler When:

When you do school at your kitchen table.

When your a teenager and still have a playgroup.

When all of your electronics have educational games and tools on them.

When you pass school in session while going to Busch Gardens.

When your math for the day is couponing at the grocery store.

When your school bus is your Mom’s minivan.

When you watch Science or Discovery Channel instead of reading your science book.

When you write this instead of doing your grammar workbook.

Whole Not Half

    I don’t know about you, but people who don’t take an interest or pride in what they are doing drive me crazy. God wants you to take a healthy amount of pride in everything you do. If you don’t do something joyfully it’s better off not done to begin with. Also when someone does half a job and I have to redo it for them I get a little annoyed. I try not to do this to others because I know how annoyed I get when it is done to me. God doesn’t expect us to be perfect, but He does expect us to try to be the best person we can be. He hates for us to be lazy half hearted people.

 

One who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys.   ~Proverbs 18:9
 

God hates laziness. We should do all things as if we were doing them for Him. I don’t know about you, but if I was doing something for God I wouldn’t do only half of it. It should be the same in life. Do everything as if you were doing it for God, because you really are. If you wouldn’t do it for God you shouldn’t do it for anyone else.  God expects us as christians to set good examples to non- believers, and do honest work. Laziness should not charecterize who we are.

 "... and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody."

                            ~1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

  God wants us to live quiet lives for him. He wants us to serve both our community and our church. Serving in our community will show others how great God is by the work that we accomplish. Serving our church will show God how much we love Him, and that we are willing to work for Him joyfully. He will open doors to tell us where to serve and when to serve, but be prepared because he will also shut doors (we might want to go through) that He doesn’t want us to go through.

     Lastly God wants us to enjoy our life and have fun. He doesn’t want us to be so busy we can’t enjoy the life that he gave us.

Frogs and Their Unique Life

Frogs and Toads can be found all over the world, and on all continents except for Antarctica. They can live in/on land, trees, and sand dunes. They eat spiders, bugs, and earthworms. Birds, snakes, and bats eat frogs.  You can tell the difference between a frog and a toad because a frog has smooth skin and long back legs for jumping. Toads have bumpy skin and short back legs.




Frogs can make sound such as; barking dogs, quacking ducks, and of course, croaks. The biggest frog in the world is the Goliath Frog; the smallest is the Little Grass Frog. Another interesting fact about frogs is that they don’t have to drink. The water gets absorbed through their skin (this is how they get hydrated). A frog’s skin also helps them to breath. But only when their wet! That’s why it’s so important for them to stay in wet places. Frogs only have 159 bones (humans have 206 bones). This is because they don’t have rib bones; this is what makes them so flexible. Over half a frogs bones are in their feet. They also don’t have ears, they hear through vibrations in their brain. This is how it works; frogs have this thing called tympanum which is a piece of skin behind their ears. The tympanum vibrates like a drum when sound waves hit it. The vibration is then sent to their brain. There are about 4,000 different species of frogs on the planet with us today.



The most interesting of all of them is the Poison Dart Frog. Poison Dart Frogs come in many others colors then just blue, but just touching them could kill you. All of these frogs come in bright brilliant colors. People and animals know that vibrant color means deadly poison. Frogs like this that live in the zoo are more than likely not poisonous. Scientist believe that it’s what the frog eats in the rain forest that makes them poisonous. It’s said that native hunters in Columbia would dip their darts in the frog’s mucus so that they could more easily kill an animal with a poisonous dart.

  Frogs are unique creatures and God made them Genesis 1:24

²⁴ And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so.

Journal it! The Christmas Story

  The Christmas Story to me means, that God sent us Jesus as a sacrifice for us, to show us how much he loves us, to show us how much we mean to Him, and how much He wants us to come to Him with our problems. During the time of Jesus birth there was a lot of difficulties going on. The king sent everyone back to their home towns to be counted, and wanted all the baby boys to be killed including Jesus.
On this one night people where able to put away their differences and come together to celebrate Jesus' birth. Even today Christmas is still a special time of year for people to come together, celebrate Jesus' birth, and put away their differences.

 

This is the answer Duck gave to her favorite Bible story question I asked you to think about.

Duck's Homemade Holiday Pancakes

3 cups- flour

1 tsp- cinnamon

1 cup-oats

½ tsp- nutmeg

1 tbsp- wheat germ (optional)

1/8 tsp- ginger

2 tsp- baking powder

2 tbsp- sugar

Stir all dry ingredients well then add…

    1 cup- pumpkin or apple sauce

    3 cups- water

Mix together well and add butter to the frying pan and cook until done. 

This was Duck's writing assignment that was based off a home economics class this morning. She wrote down the ingredients as we put them in the bowl and had to type up the recipe. They came out wonderful. You can refridgerate the remainder and cook up on another morning as well. 

    

The Story Behind Thanksgiving

The story behind thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday to eat. We have thanksgiving because the separatists decided to break-away from their home in England to live freely and worship their God, and not have to be forced to worship the king, King James.

  The separatist’s decided to build a ship that would take them across the Atlantic Ocean. After 65 days on a ship named Mayflower over 200 sick and weary passengers reached Provincetown Harbor. They decided after many days searching for a good place to settle that Provincetown was not a good area for them.      

  They later moved on to Plymouth Massachusetts where they settled in a clearing made by Indians, most adults where very sick and only about seven people could work on the first house, the common house, at a time. During that time the Mayflower became a hospital ship. After the common house was built it to would become a hospital for the sick. Many of the children did the adults jobs because they where to sick and week to do their own jobs.

  The Pilgrims then met Squanto, and he taught them how to plant corn and harvest vegetables. Squanto was a good friend to the Pilgrims and had his Indian tribe come to meet them. The nearby tribes learned to trust the Pilgrims and didn’t run from them.

  In fall at the end of a plentiful harvest the Pilgrims decided to invite their Indian friends to have a great feast. This was in celebration for God keeping them safe during their journey to a free life, and the Indians teaching them how and harvest in their new soil. They were truly grateful, and that is what thanksgiving is for. It’s to show thankfulness and gratitude for what God  provides us with.

Chincoteague Island Horses

Chincoteague Island Horses

  This island was probably founded in the early 1600’s by colonists. The horses on the island were brought to the area not by a ship-wreck but by colonists needing some help with work and transport. In the 1600’s the Island would have been mostly chicken farmland. Know however it is a modern tourist attraction. There most popular attraction is pony penning day. This happens the last Wednesday in the month of July. Wednesday, the horses are swum from Assateague Island (where they live) to Chincoteague Island. On Thursday they are sold for thousands of dollars and are out for the public to see. Friday they are swam back to Assateague Island to the wild, back to their home and natural habitat.
