Jesus' Great Sacrifice.....
Jesus was beaten really bad the day of the crucifixion. Everyone seems to think that Pilate wanted Jesus killed or crucified, but he really didn't. it says in the bible in Matthew 27:20-26 the crowed wanted Jesus dead Pilate asked '' Why, what crime has he committed.'' In Matthew 27:24 it explains, Pilate saw that he wasn't getting any-where and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowed, saying,'' I am innocent of this man's blood. The responsibility is yours! '' We learn in this verse that Pilate didn't really want to kill Jesus, but he wanted to be popular, he wanted the crowd to like him. But if he had ignored the crowd we wouldn't have a way to heaven and we would still have to sacrifice sheep and goats for God. God put Jesus on this earth to be crucified in the end. Jesus didn't do anything to deserve being killed and hung on a cross, but he did it for us so we would have a way to heaven. He was mocked and spit on by the roman soldiers. At His death Jesus called out to God His father saying, '' my God my God why have you abandoned me?'' It was now the third day, early in the morning on Sunday Mary, Jesus' mother and Mary Magdalene went out to visit the tomb where Jesus was buried. Matthew 28:2-6 says, suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shown like lightning, and his clothes white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Then the angel spoke to the women. '' Don't be afraid!'' he said. '' I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn't here! He has risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where His body was lying. Just as Jesus was killed for us, God also made Him live again. So wall the Easter bunny and Easter baskets are all fun, we can't forget the true meaning of Easter.
