Duck participated in our personal neighborhood Hurricane Sandy Relief Drive to send non-parishable supplies to a Senior Housing Development that was affected by the storm. There are 97 apartments in this multi-floor complex and it didn't have back up generators. All the seniors who live there were trapped on their own floor because they couldn't get up and down the stairs. This has contributed to their need for basic living supplies.
We found out about the need from one of our neighbors whose mother was affected by this situtation in the building. We joined forces with my her and started this relief drive to help not just her mother, but the other seniors in this building.
I am happy to report that God provided enough supplies to fill 3 boxes and enough money in cash donations to put them in the mail. Now we can pray together that those who are to receive these goods will be filled to over flowing as only God can do.
Although school work has been shady at best, Duck learned a much deeper lesson about helping out others when they are in need. Instead of book work, this week was more about doing acts of service for others. She learned that sometimes in life we need to show people we don't know that we love them. I believe in my heart this will be one of those learning moments that she will hide in her heart. I am so glad God enabled us to help out.
Let's remember to keep the storm victims in our hearts and our prayers!
