Ripples In Life

Creating Character Through Trials

When life doesn’t go as planned how you handle your situation will determine how you grow from it and how it will change you in the end. Some life circumstances come in the form of positive experiences such as new friendships or relationships, a new marriage, children, and job opportunities and experiences. When these happen in our lives they give us warm and comfortable feelings that are wonderful experiences to go through no matter how stressful they are.

However, not all life experiences have positive outcomes. There are many situations that produces stressful circumstances some of them being a death of a loved one or a close friend, a divorce, loss of employment, health issues, and potentially the loss of your home leading to homelessness. How you handle these crisis’ will determine what  life lessons you will learn in the end.

Unfortunately, when we think of trials and times of stress we don’t often associate them with positive circumstances despite the fact they can harbor their own stress level. No, we usually associate them with difficult circumstances. These difficulties are ones that most often times create the ripples in the water and how we respond to those ripples will be how we grow and develop ourselves in the end.
I wish I could say I am writing from a position of successfulness here, but I can not. I am often times reminded how poorly I am reacting to many of our difficult life circumstances, but I am writing about this with the hopes that maybe my mistakes can prevent you from making the same ones.

img_1421By nature I tend to worry about things that are out of my control. I see everywhere and hear from everyone how worrying about something today does not change how the situation may turn out tomorrow, but it is hard for me to fully conquer this obstacle.

I am a person who wants to have resolution to a conflict or a crisis and until that is achieved I am worried and stressed out. I am one who if something arises I want to have plans, back up plans and back up plans to my back up plans ready so I have something to fall back on with the hopes the situation can be resolved quickly. I am not a person who likes surprises, especially when they come in the form of a negative situation.

Over the past couple of years I have struggled in this area as most of my life is out of my control. I wrote the other day about living in the shadows of other people. I wrote about that because I live in the shadows of my husband and daughter. I stay home (so I don’t provide an income for my family), but I have raised our precious daughter, homeschooled her from the very beginning and I am preparing her to live a successful adult life. She is career oriented thus college driven, but we have been delayed by several medical issues that have come up unexpectedly. This has been a struggle as it has taken her over 2 1/2 years to get successful medical treatment for what she has been through. To walk this journey has been extremely difficult because you should be able to trust doctors to identify the appropriate diagnosis, but her situation has been complicated and several doctors have turned us away due to admitting they didn’t know how to medically treat her. Unfortunately, her pain and symptoms got worse because no one could identify her problem. It wasn’t until this past July 2016 that we hit the road of medical hopelessness before we came across a wonderful doctor who wasn’t afraid to listen to her symptoms, hear what we were saying, and provided comfort to help with her pain and constant infections until she could get medical treatment. After several months of seeking specialists who might take on her difficult medical situation he remained rock steady for her and us. As a result she found hope again and with some recommendations to new doctors we are now on a road to recovery and direction.

This was a very difficult journey to travel and I wish I could say I traveled it gracefully and patiently, always carrying optimism and a smile, but I can’t. I am often times reminded how I should have done this better, but to be honest, I don’t know how I would have done it better. It has been hard to be a doctor to my daughter while she was in pain and sick beyond what I knew how to treat. It has been frustrating to watch this happen and not know what to do for her. It has been heart wrenching to watch teenagers go on with their lives while my daughter is laying down sick and in pain every day, day in and day out month after month and year after year. As a mom, I struggled through this trial remaining hopeful and optimistic in a group of doctors who didn’t care to take the time to figure out how to help my daughter. That was until the above mentioned, amazing doctor came in our lives. He provided the hope, knowledge, encouragement, and guidance in how to help my daughter. When she would experience a medical difficulty he would prepare me in how to help her until we could get to her next appointment and learned quickly that I believe in knowledge is power and he would even provide me with back up plans to my back up plans. I can now say he has been a blessing to our family and brought light to our very dark world. We are still working on getting her pain under control, but have finally found a set of specialists who have listened to her vowing to not give up on her and are willing to provide treatment no matter how unconventional it might be due to her age if it meant she would regain her quality of life.

I am proud to announce that since a surgical procedure she had in January as well as treatment she has had twice now from a different specialist she is getting much needed daily pain relief and her constant infections seem to be coming under control. She is back to doing her school work again, she is now learning to drive (which she couldn’t do for all the medicine and pain medicine she had been on the past over 2 years), and she is working every day with less struggle to get through her shift. She is regaining her life.

The ripples this situation has caused in our life have been abundant, but we are coming through it. I am still processing what I have learned and how it has impacted me. I have gone from hopelessness to hopeful, from distrusting to trusting those who earn it. I have tried to maintain a sense of faithfulness, but at times have struggled. Lastly, I have struggled with replacing frustration and anger with love and compassion, but I am constantly working on all of these daily.
I wish I could report this difficult situation has been complete and all the lessons I was to learn have been learned, but I am still walking down this difficult journey. I know now this will come to an end at some point, but right now I am thankful for the doctors she finally has and the progress she is finally making. More love and compassion is being experienced allowing for some of the ripples in our water to be softened thankfully.

So what does your story look like? What journey are you traveling that is leaving you feeling hopeless and out of control? Think about where you started your journey. What did you feel then and how do you feel now?  What lessons have you learned along the way?  Now would be a good time to reevaluate your entire journey so you can see not only where you are but where you have been. Taking the time to do this it should help you find a sense of encouragement by seeing you come along way. When you look at your own ripples in the water you will see yours are calming down as well. Hopefully your water will soon be as still as glass and the lessons you have learned will be as valuable as your situation was.

Hang in there sweet friend. Remember, no matter how long you travel this difficult road, it does end. All the forks will merge into one steady road and at the end there will be a sign saying dead end. You can’t go any farther, thus you journey will stop here. Once you get there, celebrate your accomplishment. You will have made it.

Random Acts of Kindness

Who Will You Touch This Week?

As the weekend comes to a close and we prepare to go into a new week I have a challenge for you.
If you have a person come to mind this week instead of letting that random thought pop in and go back out stop and think about why they might have come to mind. Take the time to acknowledge with either a text message, phone call, email or a random hand written note or card to let them know you were thinking of them and then say a prayer for God to meet their need whether you know what it is or you don’t.

I am a believer that those random thoughts don’t just come to us for any random reason.  Whether we know the person is having a difficult time or a good time if they come to mind then God put them there. Acknowledge God’s timing by recognizing that person by one means or another.
design

If you prayed for them, don’t be afraid to tell them. How many times have you been struggling with something and you kept it to yourself, but had you known someone was sending up a random prayer for you how much more comfort and
encouragement would that have provided for you at that moment in time?

Be open and allow God to use you to touch someone this week. Whether you know this person or not,  God doesn’t discriminate from the strangers you can touch. You never know when that stranger could become your next friend or even a best friend. You may never know if God is using your life to touch theirs because they might need you as well.

When you think about how fragile life can be, taking just a moment of time out of our busy schedules could seriously change the meaning of an individual for the rest of their lives. Take the time to listen to God speak to you and allow Him to use you to be a blessing of encouragement to someone else this week.

Have You Been Paralysed By The Unknown

This is a very difficult place to be.

What lies ahead when  ahead often times looks like a dark and scary place?

Whether it be a place of financial hardship, health issues of loved ones or a friend, job insecurities, moving, or difficulties with relationships, these are all burdens that often times consumes us in a place where we wish we could just know what lies ahead.

We have experienced many of these over the past several years which has left me in a quandary of what to do and where to go.  What is God's plan in this and what does the road ahead look like?

There have been many days where I just looked up and said with outstretched hands, "What now God? What do I do now?"  Waiting for God's answer is never an easy place to be, but it is the best place to be.

God promises that He will never leave or forsake us.  He is always ahead of our plans even when we can't fathom the outcome.

Take this time to just trust in God's timing and in His provisions.  He is there holding you up during this time of uncertainty.

This is coming from a person who just seems to be constantly reminded of this principle.

God is in control of each and every one of your circumstances. Give it all over to Him and rest, my sweet friend.

This is written while I am in one of these places, but I am reminded over and over again of this principle.

God has this. He has "all" of this!

Note of Encouragement For This Evening

Encouragement Today...

Are You Feeling The Monday Blues?

Do you ever find yourself discouraged by the weight of the world?

Encouraging others takes your mind off yourself and your problems.

A challenge for today if you are discouraged would be to ask God to guide you to two people and offer an encouraging word or just a simple gesture of holding the door for a total stranger and smile wishing them a wonderful day.

The power that holds is so freeing from that darkness of discouragement.

I hope you have a great week.

Encouragement Today

Do you find yourself in need of a pick-me-up?

Listen to this song. I know it is meant for someone as God put it on my heart to post it.

Stop, listen, and rest.

God is listening to your prayers and is wiping your tears.

God has worked out everything that is troubling you today.

Let Him be your strength and you will find that sense of renewal you are looking for.

Hugs to my hurting friend!

God Blessed Us With Our Mothers Today

Today is a day that we celebrate our moms.

When you think of your mom, what comes to mind?

Are they loving thoughts or are they memories you struggle with?

As Mom's my mom always said they don't come with a book. There is no right or wrong way to being a mother.

I never truly understood the magnitude of that statement until I became a mom.

As I enjoyed a lengthy conversation with my mom last night we came back to this conversation and she was honest by saying she made her fair share of mistakes with raising my brother and I, but I don't hold those mistakes against her as I am a mom who can fully understand, for I am guilty of making my own mom mistakes.

I know Mother's Day comes with a series of mixed emotions because being a mother isn't always packaged up in a neat and tidy pretty little box. There are mothers who have blessed us with beautiful memories of motherhood while there are many who have not had those wonderful experiences.

As we go about our day be respectful of everyone who is touched by the variety of emotions today brings because not everyone is touched by the happy gleefulness the day can bring.

Keep in the back of your mind there are others who have different stories that makes today a day of difficulty.

Try to remember to be empathic to everyone today no matter what their story might be.

  •      Many people are grieving for the loss of their mom who is no longer with them.
  •      Many people long for repaired relationships with them.
  •      Many people are blessed to have a healthy relationship with their mom and are encouraged by the time they get to spend with them.
  •      Many people are grieving in their motherhood for they have lost a dear child and feel the pain of that loss every minute of every day.
  •      Many people grieve today for their longing to be a mother but have not become one yet.
  •      Many people are coming from homes where adoption occurred and they may not even know who their real mother may be, but they have adopted mothers who loves be them as closely as any real mother ever could.

I know there are many other circumstance in people's lives that may make today either a joyous day or one of heartache.

I have seen the many sides of the wide range of emotions this can bring, but there is one commonality amongst all of these emotions and it should be that we are all here because a mother brought us into the world.

For this reason be thankful for your mother today because she is a blessing God provided to us. If this thankfulness comes easy feel blessed but if it comes with difficulty consider today to seek forgiveness in your heart so you can experience the thankfulness for your mother today.

God doesn't make mistakes. So whether this is a joyous day with beautiful memories, or whether it is a day of painful memories take the time to look up to God and say, "Thank You God for my mom for she brought me into the world, because without her, I wouldn't be here today."

To those who are blessed to have a wonderful mother; love her, cherish her, and lastly respect her not just today but in every day for she is blessing given specifically to you from God.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you Mothers! I pray your day is a blessing from God!

God Remains Faithful To See Us Through Our Trials

Do you ever find yourself in a position of fearfulness or concern over important decisions you need to make whether they are about finances, motherhood, medical issues, education, or just life?

I find myself here on a regular basis. I am not proud of this as I know fear does not come from God, but from our enemy, but unfortunately the real me has to acknowledge this not so nice side of myself.

I have not blogged regularly for a number of years as we have experienced hardships on a multitude of levels since 2012.

I know time and time again God has proven His faithfulness over and over again, but for every crisis that arises, I find myself in a sense of doubt, concern, and even fearfulness.

I am back here again, in that ugly place of doubt, concern, and even fear.

I am in that place of not knowing if I am supposed to get a job to help out my husband's struggling income or am I to stay the course and finish our last year in high school?

How funny is it as I write these very words that my answer rings so clearly?

I know the answer is to stay the course and finish our homeschool journey.

It isn't like we aren't almost done.

We just need one more year and my life will take a natural course change anyway as Kiddo will move on with her adult life without me, as this is what I have raised her to do.

The enemy has the way of making his way into our lives and cause chaos with our natural fears in life.

He knows where my anxieties are and has caused so much havoc in my thoughts and my mind that I am struggling to remain faithful to my God who knows me better than I know myself.

So to make a very long story short, as I was strolling through Pinterest tonight I kept seeing pins about trusting God with your problems and your circumstances and stand firm on His promises to see you through to the end.

He loves us unconditionally and knows the plans He has for us since he created us for His purpose to begin with.

My encouragement to you if you are in a similar situation, remember God promises to remain faithful to meet our every need as it arises.

Trust Him with your every thought, concern, and even fear.

He is already ahead of us as He knows the outcome, so if He knows the outcome why should we fret over our own situations. Turn those fears and concerns over to God and rest in peace this evening.

Encouragement Today

Hope For The Future

Is it hard to see where you think God wants you to go?

Is it looking dark and bleak?

God wants you to know He has your back.

He knows the plans for you life.

They may be a surprise to you and may change leaving you feeling confused, but there is never confusion in God's world.

He leads us down paths on purpose as He is trying to prepare our lives for the plans He already has for us.

Each experience whether they are easy or hard, God has a purpose and a plan to use that for His glory.

Examine your situation so you can He can reveal to you what He is trying to teach you at this moment in time.

God loves you more than you can imagine and everything He is doing is to prosper you whether physically, emotionally or mentally.

Turn to Him with your every care and concern and allow Him to bless you with the need of your heart.

Trust in God with your every plan as only does He know how your life will turn out.

Encouragement Today

Allow God To Carry Your Load for Awhile
This is a lesson I have great difficulties with.

God has been trying to teach me this skill for a while but I am a slow learner.

It is my desire tonight however to encourage you that stress is a very dangerous weapon that enemy uses against us.

Life is hard for many of us right now, but remember no matter how many tears you may shed, God is holding your hand and drying each and every tear you shed.

It may feel dark and you may feel weary and alone.

You may be questioning whether God is still near because you can't hear His voice any longer.

Sweet friend, I am that small voice encouraging you tonight that God is near, so near He is holding on to your right now.

He loves you and has not abandoned you at your weakest point.

No, He is right beside you.

Reach out and grab Him. Share with Him your deepest darkest secrets and hurts.

Share your worries and fears, He wants to hear them.

He created you, remember?  He knows what you are going through, but wants you to simply talk to Him like you would talk to your best friend or husband.

Trust me, I have been in a very dark spot for a very long time.

God and I have had many long chats but one thing I can promise you is that He never left my side just like He hasn't left your side.

Cry to Him, scream to Him, talk to Him.

He is waiting to hear from you right now.

Release the stress and the worry dear friend and know God is there to listen and to dry your tears and calm your fears.

Allow Him to come back into your heart and I know you will hear His voice again.

He will show you He never left your side.

Allow Him to reveal to you what He is trying to teach you or show you.

Please know this trial or circumstance may seem like it will never pass, but it will.

Allow God to carry your worries and your concerns.

His shoulders are much bigger than yours.

He loves you and wants to do this for you.

The Holdays Are Behind Us

It is Just January and We Are Back

We are back up and running from the busy holiday season with the holidays behind us for another year.

Life began again by getting up early, getting the chores done, hitting the school books then off to work Kiddo went for the afternoon.

Now we are home for the night exhausted from the new routine, but the night isn't ready to stop.

There is more school work to do tonight as it didn't all get done before work and then bed to follow so we can do it all over again tomorrow.

Did your day look similar to this?

As my husband puts it so elegantly, "It is just January now."

Are you feeing the same way?

Is it just January for you?

We have snow flurries coming in for the evening which is a first for us this winter.

Christmas was 80 degrees, which is considered unseasonably warm for our region, but now snow is on the way.

January and snow. Yes, those are two real signs winter has arrived.

Please continue to check back as I am prayerfully thinking about what God wants me to write about now.

It is my desire to share encouraging words through this blog and God knows the desires of my heart.

It will be fun and exciting to see what God has in stored for all of us as He reveals His plan to me.

Rest well my Friends as I am sure we are all exhausted this evening.

Let God renew your body and your mind this evening.

Encouragement Today ~ Trust

Encouragement Today ~ Feeling Anxious?

Cast Your Cares a Upon Him

With all the horrible news going on around us, it is hard to not be disturbed and worried by our daily lives.

I hear of so many families struggling whether it is financially, struggling with difficult marriages, serious health issues within their families or the loss of a loved one.

The pain is the same, it is real and it hurts.

Many are left looking at very lonely and often times very empty hearts.

We spend many hours examining when and how we got where you are today.

Is there a way out?  What do I do next?

"Cast all your cares upon Him because He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)

It seems so simple, but yet it is so hard to do.

This is what God wants us to do during our difficult times of hardship.

When we feel like we are alone, we really are not.

The "world", our friends, and our family may turn their backs on us, but God never does.

He is holding us up even when we find ourselves paralyzed and unable to take the next step.

Look up, God loves us unconditionally, even when we can not find it within ourselves to love us..

My sweet friend, Cast your cares upon Him.  He will sustain you while you are feeling fearful, lost,  and anxious.

Encouragement Today ~ Hope

Hope Is Believing In Something That Can't Be Seen.

Hope is truly believing God is going to meet your every need even when you can't see your way.

We live in a physical world where we believe in what we see.

We are "always" in control over every aspect of our life, but the hard reality is that we are not.

The one who is truly in control  is God and God only.

Believing in HOPE is where you will draw the strength to persevere through what you may be going through in your life.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  Phil 4:13 (NKJV)

Before you give up, look up and let God show you the hope that through Him, All things are possible.

Are You As Tired As I Am?

Mom's are not made to be perfect contrary to popular opinion.

How many of us get tired and find it hard to keep their tongues in place?

I know I am one!

Not saying it to be proud, but just trying to be honest.

I just had an incident occur hence the reason I am here as I walked away from a situation where it was easier to walk away then it was to allow my tongue to run wild.

I think after a long tiring day we need to just really rely on God's grace to help us get through the rest of the day and to bridle our tongues so as to not let it run and muck.

Dear God, I pray for myself and anyone else who might find themselves in this situation where they are tired and it is the end of the day and our tongues are ready to do as they wish.  Please Lord, help us to keep our tongues in check so we won't have to go back and seek forgiveness for what we might say wrong.  In Jesus Name I Pray, Amen.

A Time of Great Revelation

The past few years have taught me so much about what it means to have genuine faith for trusting in God to meet our every need.

We have endured several hardships back to back and even though there were many days of tears and fears, God has taught me several life lessons through it all.

During what I will identify as Crisis 2, He taught me what He truly means to have faith and contentment in Him.

Do Not Worry ~ “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
                                                                                                   Matthew 6:25-28 (NKJV)

I leaned on this scripture more than words could possibly express.

There is so much meaning and strength in this passage.

If you find yourself in a hardship, seek this passage and be encouraged.

If God can take care of the birds and the flowers of the fields, how much more does He love and care for you?

During Crisis 3, I learned what God means for us to have hope and perseverance in things that can not be seen.

If you  have ever truly gone through a hardship, you know the great difficulty this brings when you can not physically see a way out of a situation.

This hope and perseverance that can not be seen is what you learn to cling to for guidance in order to survive the difficult journey you may be on.

Hope

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
                                                                 Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)

Perseverance

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.   Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)

These were some tough lessons to learn, but I am remaining optimistic and hopeful that I have learned what God was teaching me as we begin our new journey in life.

Now to go back to Crisis 1. I did not address this one first as I am still in the process of pondering what God wants me to learn from that journey.

It is my hope as I begin to write about this difficult one, that God will reveal more and more about it, as it is the rope that ties all these difficulties together.

As I close it is my prayer that God will use my story to touch a piece of your life in the manner in which it has touched mine.

It is also my desire to know if we had to travel down these few difficult roads, that our experience can be used and heard by others to encourage them through whatever difficulties they may be experiencing too.

Encouragement Today

Will Your School Year Ever Finish?

How is the end of your school year coming together? Is it looking like mine? Will we ever get done?
The answer is yes! Be patient. Know this too will come together.

I remember when we were schooling during the younger years, I thought it was so important to finish every book cover to cover in order to say we were done.

Have faith fellow homeschoolers that this isn't the key factor to finishing the school year.

The Key Factors to Finishing The School Year

  • Did your child learn everything you wanted them to know?
  • Did your child meet the goals and objectives you had when you started the school year?

If you, as the mom and teacher are encouraged and happy with what your student learned this year then you have the complete control over determining when your school year or subject is complete.

"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you:, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Is 41:10 (NIV)

Lastly, the foolproof method you can never go wrong with in determining if your school book or school year is finished, turn to God for the answer. I have always looked to God for this determination. He is the only one who knows what He wants our children to learn because He already knows what our children will be when they grow up.

Have faith dear reader, you will finish this school year. We always do! Your children will have learned everything they will need to know in the end.

Be encouraged because you are doing an amazing job!!!
