Marguerite Henry
Marguerite
Henry was the famous author of Misty of Chincoteague and 59 other books. She
was born to Louis and Anna Breithaupt, the youngest of five other children. Ms.
Henry lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and at the age of six she was struck with
rheumatic fever which had her in bed until the age of twelve. Because of her
illness she couldn’t go to school and was confined to the indoors where she
discovered she liked to read. Because of her love to read and her love of
animals she decided to write. Her parents surprised her with a writing desk for
Christmas and Marguerite Henry replied, ‘’At last I had a world of my very
own—a writing world, and soon it would be populated by all the creatures of my
imagination.’’
She sold
her first book at the age of 11 and she often wrote about animal such as, cats,
dogs, birds, foxes, mules, and mostly horses.
